Welcome to Marfleet Primary School

Marfleet primary School Marfleet Lane, Kingston-upon Hull, HU9 5RJ | T: 01482 781943 | F: 01482 318371

Our Governors

On behalf of the governing body I’d like to welcome you to the updated Marfleet Primary School website. The website has been completely overhauled and I hope that you will agree that it provides parents with more and better information and will be updated daily as necessary to alert parents to events taking place, letters coming home etc.

In addition we hope it gives a flavour of the school’s ethos for those who are thinking of registering their children to join our school community. As governors we work with staff to ensure that every child achieves his or her potential. We have high expectations of all – from behaviour, which sets the tone of the school, to academic achievement. Continuous improvement is what we strive for and the excellent results achieved in KS2 in recent years together with improving outcomes throughout the school demonstrate this well.

However we believe education does not only take place in the classroom and we therefore work to ensure that we enrich the learning experience of pupils with regular curriculum related excursions outside the school as well as a good range of extra-curricular activities – sports teams, clubs etc.

We are also particularly proud of the fact that responses from pupil and parent questionnaires consistently highlight how much children enjoy school and feel it to be a safe environment. This is also recognised by Ofsted who in their 2013 inspection report identified as a strength that “pupils feel safe and secure in school and trust the staff to help them when they have concerns”. We are a small close community and value the supportive atmosphere we provide to enable your children to thrive and achieve their potential.”

Mrs D Quigley – Chair of Governors & governor in charge of Geography & History

After serving a long period as a Hull governor at a local secondary school, I took a break before joining Marfleet’s governing body in 2009. I have had links with the school for many years in my employment as HR Manager with Fenner at the factory adjacent to the school, so was pleased to be approached to join the school’s governing body.

I was elected to the post of Chair of Governors in 2011 and am a member of both the committees (Curriculum & Standards and Finance & Personnel) through which we conduct the majority of governors’ business.

As the mother of two daughters now in their 20s in whose education I always took a close interest and involvement, I enjoy this opportunity to make a contribution to the development of the next generation through their school years.

Authority Governor

Miss Stephanie Anderson governor in charge of Computing & Science

‘I have been appointed as a Co-opted Governor at Marfleet and this is my first role as a school Governor. My role as a Governor involves oversight of Science and Computing at the school. I am also a member on the Finance and Personal Committee.

I have a keen interest in the school, which my niece and nephew both attend, and I want to make sure that they and their fellow pupils have the best education available to them.

I work for Hull City Council within their regeneration team and have previously worked on redeveloping the city’s Secondary and Special schools. In my current role, I am working on redevelopment projects that will deliver improvements for Hull as part of our year as UK City of Culture.’

Ms M Shilitto governor in charge of Numeracy & Modern Foreign Languages

Community Governor

Mr N Anthony

Mr N Anthony – Vice Chair and Governor in charge of Literacy, SEN & Attendance

‘I am appointed as a Community Governor and have been on the Governing Body for a Year. I am currently the Vice Chair. I believe I bring skills in problem solving, planning, human resources and working within a team. I applied to become a Governor because I believe in helping our children to gain the best possible all round education and that this is a partnership with parents.

I am an East Hull resident. I have worked at Hull City Council as a Social Worker and Manager with experience in working with Children, Minority Ethnic Groups and Adults. I have been a Lecturer in Social Work at the University of Lincoln, Board Member of Humberside Probation Trust and currently serve as a Magistrate in Hull.

In the past I served on the governing bodies of David Lister, Malet Lambert, Gillshill Primary and White House.’

Parent Governor

Ms C Acey governor in charge of Art, Music & Design & Technology

Mr P Hussey

Mr P Hussey governor in charge of Health & Safety, Early Years & PE

‘I am one of the parent Governors at Marfleet Primary School. With a daughter currently in year one and a son due to start foundation in September I have a vested interest in ensuring the school is doing the right thing by its pupils and their parents/carers.

My role involves attending regular meetings with representatives from the school and other Governors to be informed about, discuss and question issues affecting the school, how it performs, what is does well and what challenges it faces.

I am also responsible for link subjects where I go into the school and talk to the lead staff about what they are doing to ensure our children are being taught in a positive learning environment and to provide an ‘outside of school’ perspective on how that looks to us as parents. My link subjects are PE and Early Years Foundation.

In addition to this I have also been involved in recruiting some of the teaching staff, deciding how some of the schools money should be spent and making the relevant checks and challenges required by the board of governors to ensure  the school is operating successfully within its financial framework and legal and moral obligations.

I am from a sports and leisure background and feel strongly that all children should be encouraged to partake in as much sport and physical activity as possible as this helps to develop a healthy mind as well as a healthy body.’
